There are a variety of military identification means which can be used to allow personnel access to certain areas, buildings, or equipment. The main form of identification is the Common Access Card, also known as the CAC.
The CAC is a credit card sized ID that contains a chip which stores the individual's information. The second form of ID is the Department of Defense Form 2, commonly referred to as the DD2. The DD2 is an identification card that does not have a chip, but does contain the individual's information on the front and back. The third form of ID is the Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card, also known as the USID. The USID is an ID card that does not have a chip, but does contain the individual's information on the front and back, as well as a photograph. The fourth form of ID is the Military Dependent's Identification Card, also known as the MDID. The MDID is an ID card that does not have a chip, but does contain the individual's information on the front and back, as well as a photograph. Lastly, some commands may issue their own forms of military ID which vary in both format and content.
