Do you need a passport to go to Puerto Rico?

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

According to the U.S. Department of State[1], you don't need a passport to go to Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory so American citizens can travel there without a passport.

However, you will need a passport to travel to any other country. So if you're planning a trip to Puerto Rico, you can leave your passport at home. Just make sure you have your ID and boarding pass ready to go.

If you're looking for an excuse to take that Caribbean vacation, Puerto Rico is the perfect destination. Just pack your sunscreen and your swimsuit, and you're good to go!
